Sony RX10.4 Setting up the streamline way. 6 April 2019

Last month I published “How the Sony RX10.4 could be even better”. This contained my suggestions  for a root-and-branch redesign of the menu system and a substantial overhaul of the body, handle and controls.

I have however found a way to make the existing RX10.4 easier to understand and operate  by creating a  less complex user interface.

1. In Camera Settings>Custom Operation1>Custom Key(Shoot) I select [Not Set] for

C1, C2, C3, AEL button, Left cross key, Right cross key, Down cross key, Focus hold button.

2. I set the Center Button to [Focus Standard]

3. On the Fn button I have

Upper row: Quality, Drive Mode, Focus Area, ISO, ISO Auto Min SS, Steady Shot.

Lower row: Flash Mode, Shutter Type, Creative Style, Zebra, Selftimer during bracket, Shoot Mode.

4. On my Menu I have: Format.

5. I set up MR1 (on the Mode Dial) for sport/action

And MR2 for tripod shooting.

For still photos that’s all there is.

If I want to adjust some function I know that all the items I require are on the Fn button.

The only thing I have to remember is to turn that sneaky little Focus Mode rotary switch hidden down there on the front of the body when shifting from single shot to continuous.

And back again.

Operation of the cross keys becomes much more straightforward this way as the left/right/down keys have only one function which is moving the AF area.
