Travelling with the Lumix FZ1000 (original) 24 May 2019

MOPOP Seattle

I recently travelled  through parts of the USA, Canada and Alaska as usual taking photos along the way. My plan had been to take a new Panasonic FZ1000.2  but there seems to be a hold up with supply of that model so I pulled out my trusty 5 year old FZ1000 (original) and off we went.

The FZ1000 performed very well. It proved yet again one of the most versatile and capable all purpose cameras that I have ever used.

It coped well indoors or outdoors, for close-ups, landscape, panoramas, birds (aeroplanes, whatever) in flight, portrait, documentary, street….anything really. And all this with a built in 25-400mm (equivalent) lens of very good quality in a compact package at a modest price.

I also own a Sony RX10.4 but elected to leave this at home as it is somewhat larger and heavier than the Lumix making it less appealing for travel. The two cameras deliver equal capability and quality in the focal length range 25-400mm (equivalent).

Market, Seattle.  Some people worry that there might be too much luminance noise from the 15.9mm sensor indoors. Not so. f2.8 gives sufficient depth of field and keeps the ISO setting down.

The FZ1000 has no problem with BIFs
